We’re revising the way BCWipe is being licensed. As part of the change, BCWipe - Standard edition will be rebranded to BCWipe - Home. On this page you will find detailed information about who this change might affect and how.

Use the links below for easier navigation through the page:

    2. I am a private individual using BCWipe for both personal and work tasks. How will the change affect me?

    3. I am using BCWipe at work. How will the change affect me?

I am a private individual using BCWipe to process my own data in a personal, non-commercial environment. How will the change affect me?

You may continue using BCWipe - Home. The EULA permits the use of BCWipe - Home to process personal data in a non-commercial environment.

I am a private individual using BCWipe for both personal and work tasks. How will the change affect me?

As the EULA only permits the use of BCWipe - Home to process personal data in a strictly non-commercial environment, you will need to switch to the Enterprise license. Please fill out this form to get started: https://www.jetico.com/migrate-to-bcwipe-enterprise

I am using BCWipe at work. How will the change affect me?

As the EULA only permits the use of BCWipe - Home to process personal data in a strictly non-commercial environment, you will need to switch to the Enterprise license. Please fill out this form to get started: https://www.jetico.com/migrate-to-bcwipe-enterprise

How do I know if I have a Home or Enterprise license?

As a rule of thumb, all licenses purchased through our online store are Home licenses. You can also locate the license in your mailbox/program folder. If the license key contains the string “Enterprise: Yes”, you have an Enterprise license and you can continue to use the software without limitations. Otherwise, you have a Home license that permits you to use BCWipe strictly for personal, non-commercial needs.

Are there changes in the functionality of the software?

The compliance-oriented wiping schemes, including U.S. DoD 5220.22-M (E), U.S. DoD 5220.22-M (ECE) and U.S. DoE M.205.1-2, as well as three NIST 800-88 wiping schemes, will only be available with the Enterprise license from now on.

For home users, two new schemes have been introduced: Jetico SSD (2 passes) and Jetico HDD (7 passes). To learn about the new schemes in detail, see: https://www.jetico.com/serve/bcwipe-wiping-schemes-jetico-support

Any existing wiping tasks will be updated to use the new wiping schemes, following these rules:

If this was the wiping scheme:

It will be replaced with this wiping scheme

U.S. DoD 5220.22-M (E)

Jetico SSD

U.S. DoD 5220.22-M (ECE)

Jetico HDD

U.S. DoE M.205.1-2

Jetico SSD

The change will happen automatically the next time the task runs. No action is required from the user.

How do the new schemes compare to the US DoD wiping standards?

The new schemes are as effective at erasing your data as the ones they will be replacing.  Even more so, the new schemes are tailored to best fit the specific requirements of the two types of storage media: SSD and HDD.

The new schemes, however, will not carry the aspect of compliance.

If you are using BCWipe for compliance, your industry is most likely enforcing the requirement to use one of the following standards for secure data erasure:

  • U.S. DoD 5220.22-M (E)
  • U.S. DoD 5220.22-M (ECE)
  • U.S. DoE M.205.1-2
  • NIST 800-88 (1 / 2/ 3 passes)

You can unlock these schemes by migrating your BCWipe license to the Enterprise license. Please fill out this form to get started: https://www.jetico.com/migrate-to-bcwipe-enterprise

Are there other benefits of using BCWipe with an Enterprise license?

You will get quite a few additional benefits by upgrading your BCWipe license to an Enterprise license, including:

  • Access to erasing network drives and resources
  • The ability to erase files in bulk via the file list upload
  • The ability to export wiping tasks and distribute across endpoints
  • Centralized management and reporting (optional)

Licensing options include fixed as well as floating licenses for incident response use.
