What Search can do
The Search feature in Jetico Central Manager (JCM) helps Administrators locate sensitive or business-critical data across managed endpoints. This chapter provides a high-level overview of the information types that can be discovered, as well as the follow-up actions available after reviewing the results
What types of information can be found
JCM Search supports multiple levels of data discovery, ranging from simple text matches to broad, high-level information categories. At a conceptual level, Administrators can search for:
- Exact terms and specific identifiers
Such as personal names, project titles, invoice numbers, internal codes or other direct text matches. See more in Search filters by type of information
- Files with certain characteristics
For example, files with a particular name, extension, size, location or creation/modification date. See more in Search filters by file attributes.
- Broader categories of information
Such as Personal Identifiable Information (PII), financial data, medical data or other regulated content types.
These categories are available through Templates, Presets and AI-powered Categories, which allow JCM to recognize whole information classes even when exact keywords are unknown.
What Administrators can do with the results
Once the data is discovered, Administrators can review and filter the Search Results to understand where sensitive information is located and how it is used across managed endpoints. After reviewing the findings, they can choose one of the following actions:
- Securely erase selected files.
- Create encrypted backups before deletion.
- Export search results for further processing.
- Generate Search Reports and Data Erasure Reports for audit and compliance documentation.
Now that you have an overview of the capabilities of JCM Search, the next step is to ensure the module is enabled in your environment. In the following article, we will look at how to activate the Search module in Jetico Central Manager.
