This article explains how to manage BestCrypt Data Shelter settings for a selected client computer in Jetico Central Manager.

Use the individual computer page when one computer requires a specific Data Shelter configuration, local policy editing, policy import, individual logging settings, or separate activity review.

For general information about applying policies to groups and computers, see Applying Protection Policies.

Open Data Shelter settings for a computer

    1. In the left pane of the JCM Console, select the required client computer.
    2. Switch to the Data Shelter tab on the computer page.

The Data Shelter tab shows the policy assigned to the selected computer and provides controls for local editing, policy import, individual settings, and activity review.

Assign or change the protection policy

A client computer normally uses the Data Shelter policy assigned to its computer group.

Use this option when the selected computer must use a different policy than the one assigned at group level.

    1. Click the current Data Shelter policy name.
    2. Select the Global Policy that should be applied to this computer.
    3. Make sure Allow policy editing is not selected if the computer should remain centrally managed.

When an individual policy is assigned to a computer, it overrides the group-level policy for that computer.

Computers with an individual policy are marked in the list of computers and groups with the individual policy icon . For more information about icons in the left pane, see Company Page.

Allow local policy editing

Use Allow policy editing only when the local administrator should be allowed to change Data Shelter settings directly on the client computer.

When this option is enabled, local administrators can create or modify the local Data Shelter configuration. This is typically used when preparing a policy or rule for import into JCM.

When this option is disabled, policy configuration is controlled from JCM.

For the full import workflow, see Importing a Policy from a Client Computer.

Import local rules or policies

If local policy editing is enabled and the Data Shelter configuration is changed on the client computer, the updated configuration is sent to JCM.

On the computer page, you can import locally created or edited settings in two ways:

    • Import Rule
Imports one selected local folder-rule entry as a reusable protection rule in JCM.
    • Import Policy
Imports the full local Data Shelter configuration as a new Global Policy.

Use Import Rule when you want to reuse one specific access configuration. Use Import Policy when you want to reuse the complete configuration from the selected computer.

For step-by-step instructions, see Importing a Policy from a Client Computer.

Use individual Data Shelter settings

By default, Data Shelter logging follows the company-level settings.

To use different logging settings for the selected computer:

    1. Enable Use Individual Settings.
    2. Click Options.
    3. Configure the Data Shelter log options for this computer.

Individual settings can be useful for testing, troubleshooting, or temporary detailed monitoring.

For company-level Data Shelter logging options, see Company Settings.

Review Data Shelter activity logs

BestCrypt Data Shelter reports events from the client computer to JCM according to the configured logging settings.

Depending on the selected options, the activity log may include events such as:

    • policy changes;
    • access denied events;
    • access granted events.

To review Data Shelter activity:

    1. Open the Activity log section on the computer page.
    2. Use filters such as Warnings or Errors to narrow the list.
    3. Select an issue and click Mark resolved after it has been reviewed or handled.
    4. Use Show only unresolved to focus on open issues.
