Using Rescue File

Besides of creating Rescue Bootable Floppy Disk for System/Boot volume, it is also recommended to save Rescue File for all the volumes you have encrypted.

When you encrypt volume, BestCrypt Volume Encryption asks the user to backup Rescue File with information about encrypted volumes to some safe place, for example to removable disk or to other not encrypted fixed disk. To backup Rescue File run the Rescue->Copy Rescue File to other disk/folder command. The program will ask you to browse disk/folder where you want to save the file and will write the file to the folder.

You can use the Rescue File to decrypt volume if some accidental damage occurs by running Rescue->Decrypt Volume using Rescue File command. Information inside Rescue File is encrypted exactly in the same way as on volumes, so there is no risk that someone not knowing proper passwords can use the file.

Rescue File contains information about all encrypted volumes, including System and Boot volumes. The file can be used in more complicated accidental cases, for example, if computer hardware is damaged but there is a hope that hard disk with encrypted volumes is still alive.

In this case you can insert the hard disk to another computer, install BestCrypt Volume Encryption on the computer and run Rescue->Decrypt Volume using Rescue File command. The program will ask you to browse Rescue File for the process. Browse the file you have saved from computer that is damaged now and BestCrypt will decrypt the volume.
