Full Disk Wiping
BCWipe Total WipeOut can wipe:
- Traditional Hard Disk Drives (HDD), including the area in which the operating system is installed
- Solid State Drives (SSD), including NVMe Drives
- Hybrid Drives (SSHD)
Support for TRIM on SSD
BCWipe Total WipeOut supports the ATA TRIM command that was introduced for use with SSD disks. SSD devices are now ensured to maintain the same performance as before the wiping process. By supporting TRIM, BCWipe Total WipeOut securely erases SSDs without the risk of degradation that would have otherwise reduced SSD performance by about 30 percent.
Centralized Wiping – NEW in v.3
BCWipe Total WipeOut users can run any of the software's DoD-approved wiping schemes to erase hard drives and SSDs on multiple computers simultaneously.
Centralized Reporting – NEW in v.3
For auditing purposes, admins can now run and retrieve wiping reports from a central server and download them in multiple formats including DOC, PDF, XLSX, CSV and HTML
and CSV. BCWipe Total WipeOut reports are generated in compliance with NIST recommendations.
Browser-Based Interface – NEW in v.3
BCWipe Total WipeOut's new browser-based interface enables users to operate the software from anywhere - whether in an office chair or a beach chair.
Support for Wiping Policies – NEW in v.3
Administrators and Operators can easily configure wiping policies (scheme/DCO/HPA/SECURITY ERASE) per drive type: HDD, SSD or removable. Learn more
Operating System Independent
Wiping procedures with BCWipe Total WipeOut can be run on any hardware platform with x386 and 64-bit AMD/Intel architecture, Itanium or 64-bit SPARC,
regardless of the operating system installed on the computer.
File System Independent
Contents of hard drives are wiped regardless of the file system used to format the drives (FAT, NTFS, HPFS or other).
Wipe IDE, SATA, SAS, SCSI, PCI-E and Removable Drives
BCWipe Total WipeOut can wipe IDE, SATA, SAS, SCSI, PCI-E and removable drives (e.g., USB hard drives, flash memory).
Wipe NVMe Drives – NEW in v.3
BCWipe Total WipeOut can now securely erase SSD in less time by delivering support for Non-Volatile Memory Express, more commonly known as NVMe, working with native commands such as User Data Erase and Cryptographic Erase.
Automatically Unfreeze Drives Before Using ATA Secure Erase – NEW in v.3
BCWipe Total WipeOut automatically unfreezes drives before using the native firmware command ATA Secure Erase. Automating this process results in more reliable erasure of SSDs, plus a better user experience, eliminating the need to manually access the BIOS and unfreeze the drives.
BCWipe Total WipeOut is designed to provide high-performance data shredding. On modern hard drives, performance of 1-pass wiping can be 30–60 MB/sec or
better (e.g., a 7-pass U.S. DoD wipe performance will be 4–8 MB/sec.).
Wipe Drives in Parallel
BCWipe Total WipeOut can wipe several hard drives in parallel. This feature significantly improves the overall performance of wiping multiple hard drives
simultaneously, especially for those that are connected to different controllers on the motherboard.
Wipe HPA and DCO Hidden Sectors
BCWipe Total WipeOut can identify the number of sectors hidden by the Device Configuration Overlay (DCO) function (present since the ATA-6 standard) and
can wipe the DCO hidden sectors. In addition, BCWipe Total WipeOut can recognize and wipe the Host Protected Area (HPA) on hard drives (supported since ATA-
Support for Role-Based Access Control – NEW in v.3
BCWipe Total WipeOut v.3 delivers role-based access control.
- Administrators can change server settings, control wiping procedures and set wiping policies, generate reports and check logs.
- Operators can control wiping procedures and set wiping policies.
- Auditors can generate reports and check logs.
Support for Hotplug
Once boot media has been created from the system on which BCWipe Total WipeOut is installed, hotplug support enables users to easily plug in drives and
wipe them automatically according to a preconfigured scheme without needing to reboot. Manual disk re-scan is still available for hardware that does not
support hotplug notifications.
Support for Wiping Policies – NEW in v.3
Administrators and Operators can easily configure wiping policies (scheme/DCO/HPA/SECURITY ERASE) per drive type: HDD, SSD or removable.
Support for Several Booting Options (PXE and CD/DVD, USB) – NEW in v.3
- Network/PXE boot: Connect a target computer to the network and turn it on for wiping; wiping procedure is controlled from the server.
- CD/DVD, USB (Online Mode): After creating a BCWipe Total WipeOut bootable disk, boot a target computer from the bootable disk; wiping procedure is controlled from the server.
- CD/DVD, USB (Offline Mode): After creating BCWipe Total WipeOut bootable disk, boot a target computer from the bootable disk; wiping procedure is controlled locally and reports can be imported into the server.
BCWipe Total WipeOut can write wiping results to a floppy, a USB removable drive or a network share.
