Windows creates Special System Folders for different purposes, for example, for temporary Internet files or cookies. Such folders cannot be deleted or wiped in a usual way, because the operating system keeps them locked. Besides Internet Explorer, BCWipe can wipe special folders of the following popular web-browsers: Netscape, Mozilla, Opera.
List of Special System Folders in BCWipe Task Manager includes also Hibernation File , Swap File , Windows Temp and Recycle Bin folders.
Hibernation File is the Windows system file used when the system transits to the Hibernate State. According to the Microsoft documentation, Hibernate State is the “system power state S4, in which power is off exactly as for the shutdown state (S5), but the system can resume quickly from a file written to disk before power down.” Hibernation File is “a system-image file that is written to disk immediately before system transition to system state S4. On reboot, the hibernate file is loaded so that the system can resume from its previous location.”
Swap File is the Windows system file that is used for the virtual memory support and it can store parts of documents, you are working with, in an opened form on hard drive. Since both Hibernation File and Swap File can store sensitive information, it is important to wipe out the files regulary.
BCWipe Task Manager can be used to set automatic wipe of Special System Folders at the time when the folders are not locked. It can be done by creating new task of the Wipe Special Folders type. To create the new task run the Create new task command from the menu in the BCWipe Task Manager program. The following picture illustrates dialog window, appeared when you run the command and select the Wipe Special Folders type of task.
The Special folders window shows all registered Special Folders in your system. Mark the checkbox, corresponding to the folder that you wish to be wiped automatically.
To set a schedule for running the Wipe Special Folders task, select the Schedule page in the Wipe Task Properties dialog window.
To set wiping options for the process, select the Wipe Options page.
